CASE 9: Ewing sarcoma located in the right iliac wing

  • 12-year-old male patient
  • The patient presented with difficulty walking due to pain and swelling in the right pelvis.
  • A patient diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma via needle biopsy following the detection of a mass in the iliac crest showed no signs of metastasis in subsequent scans.
  • Internal hemipelvectomy and reconstruction with fibula and lumbopelvic fixation were performed following neoadjuvant chemotherapy.


Before the surgery: X-ray shows irregularity in the right iliac wing, and CT scan shows bone destruction and periosteal reaction.

Before the surgery:
MRI shows tumor tissue accompanied by a soft tissue mass in the right iliac wing.

During the Surgery:
The procedure involves preserving neurovascular structures after resection, and reconstruction is performed using the fibula and rod/screw.

Clinical and fluoroscopic images of the resected tissue.

Post-Surgery:
The image shows lumbopelvic fixation with fibula and rod/screw after internal hemipelvectomy.
