CASE 16: Chondrosarcoma located in the iliac wing (hemipelvis)

Our young female patient underwent internal hemipelvectomy and hip transposition due to chondrosarcoma located in the iliac crest.

 

Before the surgery: The X-ray shows sclerosis, irregularity, and a mass of tissue within the soft tissue of the right iliac wing.

Before the surgery:
CT scan shows sclerosis involving the entire right iliac wing and an irregularly bordered mass in the surrounding soft tissue.

Before the surgery:
The MRI also shows the size of the soft tissue mass, its proximity to the vascular and nerve bundle, and the surrounding edema.

During the Surgery:
The image shows the cavity created after tumor removal and the tumor prosthesis being covered with prolene mesh and sutured to the sacrum.

During the Surgery:
The clinical image of the removed tumor tissue is shown.

Post-Surgery:
The X-ray shows hip transposition with proximal femur tumor prosthesis following internal hemipelvectomy.
